Moghesan History
Recorded history on Moghes has been rife with war and tension as two cousin sapient species have attempted to survive alongside one another with mixed results. Only time will tell if the Sinta'Unathi and Yeosa'Unathi will be doomed to follow their ancestors' footsteps, or if they may be able to break the cycle and thrive on an interstellar scale.
Pre-Krukzuz era (Pre-2062)
1937 C.E. Clan Skarathk discovers an ancient bunker believed to be thousands of years old, though it is difficult to determine when exactly it was built. Archaeologists are unable to decipher the writing. The bunker is widely believed to be unopenable. This discovery would be recorded in history as the Skarathk Door, though it is unknown what - if anything - lies behind it.
2027 C.E. Olono Gonzol Kotakoskin invents the first motorized boat.
The First Northern Union (2062-2135)
2062 C.E. Minor Sinta’Unathi clans unite to form the first major power, the Northern Union, headed by Clan Skarathk. The Northern Union, notably, includes several Yeosa’Unathi clans along the shore of the Moghesan Sea - the most influential being Clan Aogalar, who are given credit for uniting the Yeosan clans under the Union’s banner, and acting as the middlemen between the Sinta and their Yeosa brethren.
2067 C.E. The first car was invented by Kssith Azktsn, based on Yeosan boat designs.
2126 C.E. The Northern Union breaks out in a civil war after Arz Krsenthal - an already wildly popular clan leader - is caught cheating in the elections to determine the new leader of the Union, taking the office from Ksrk Orozor. Clan Aogalar uses this as an opportunity to make a grab for power, quickly becoming a threatening force almost rivaling Orozor’s own.
2135 C.E. The Northern Union collapses due to infighting after being unable to determine whether Clan Aogalar, Clan Krsenthal, or Clan Orozor should lead. Clan Orozor falls as their leadership is wiped out in the civil war. Clan Aogalar and the other Northern Union Yeosa’Unathi clans form the Coastal Union.
The Spread of Krukzuz (2142-2176)
2142 C.E. Arz Krsenthal is executed by Clan Aogalar by the order of Orgoth Gazana Aogalar, the leader of Clan Aogalar, for treason. Debate rises on whether or not the Coastal Union is truly the Northern Union, with a majority of Yeosa arguing for and a majority of Sinta arguing against.
2145 C.E. Former Sinta’Unathi clans grow distrustful of the Coastal Union due to their influence along the shorelines, their opinions already soured by their continued insistence that they are the true continuation of the Northern Union. Word spreads to southern Moghes, and discrimination against the Yeosa’Unathi starts to become a noticeable issue. Clan Izweski forges alliances with two smaller clans, offering protection in exchange for resources.
2157 C.E. A large, heavily damaged metal tube of unknown origin is found in the middle of the Rorsk Desert on the equator. There is minimal writing on it, including two symbols that had been seen on the previously discovered bunker. The purpose of the structure is unknown, though it is believed to be around the same age as the Skarathk Door. Clan Arzrak, under the rule of Zikon Arzak, opens up the area to tourists and makes significant profits in the process.
2164 C.E. The Coastal Union spreads as they reach out to more Yeosa’Unathi clans, offering strong alliances as their Sinta neighbors grow distrustful of them. The distrust from the Sinta only furthers the Yeosan unification. Clan Arzak begins work on a desert resort to capitalize off of their influx of tourism - Sinta from around the globe come to the Zrrn to bask in the heat and see the Rorsk Shell.
2168 C.E. Clan Izweski’s vassal clans, thriving under their rule, encourage others to join - they take on two more vassals in exchange for protection from the Coastal Union. Rampant anti-Yeosa propaganda begins to spread in the swamplands, forcing those outside of the Coastal Union to retreat there for safety. The Zrrn Summer Stones open to the public as a luxury resort for tourists, causing the Zrrn clan to become a particularly well-known name across the globe.
2172 C.E. Budding tensions between the Izweski Hegemony and the Coastal Union cause the Yeosa’Unathi to pick up more isolationist policies, hiking import taxes. What few Sinta residents the Coastal Union has are taxed heavier than their Yeosan neighbors, only worsening the situation between the Hegemony and the Union as both species begin to abuse their neighbor. Clan Zrrn's influence spreads to local clans, who attempt to make their own resorts as well.
2175 C.E. Clan Skarathk reaches out to other former Northern Union clans. Clan chief Zork Skarathk becomes famous for his diplomacy, and the Northern Republic is widely seen among the Sinta as the beginnings of a new Northern Union. These claims draw criticism from many residents of the Coastal Union, who had already seen their nation as such. With their influence dying out as neighboring clans begin to compete, the new Zrrn leader - Krro Zrrn - has spies sabotage a neighboring resort. Their main competition, Sun-Peak Stones, is shut down after the outbreak of a disease is traced back to their food. Ultimately, this only harms the desert economy.
2176 C.E. The Coastal Union expands, absorbing two Sinta’Unathi clans alongside a river in the process - discrimination within Coastal Union borders due to their history with the Northern Union severely harms their quality of living by increasing living expenses while almost eliminating their personal income.
The Coast War (2180-2227)
2180 C.E. Hegemon Iromonos Izweski calls out the Coastal Union for its poor treatment of Sinta’Unathi residents and begins a military campaign to liberate southern territories along the Moghesan Sea. Clan Zrrn uses the profits from the Zrrn Summer Stones to purchase the Sun-Peak Stones.
2183 C.E. The Coastal Union falls victim to a terrorist attack, widely believed to be from the Izweski Hegemony. A lack of evidence, however, prevents retaliation in fear of the Northern Republic taking advantage of the opportunity to claim parts of the shore.
2185 C.E. A band of 12 Yeosa terrorists perform a retaliatory strike on the Summer Arts Festival in Hegemony Territory. The Coastal Union is largely blamed by the public, despite disavowing the attack.
2186 C.E. The Izweski Hegemony continues to apply pressure to the Coastal Union; the Northern Republic establishes diplomatic ties with the Izweski Hegemony.
2189 C.E. Trro Izweski becomes popular among Republic citizens after a series of public appearances in their territory. His dedication to protecting his people as well as his pushing for better education subtly starts to influence the policies of the Northern Republic.
2194 C.E. Another band of Yeosa terrorists attempt an attack on the Hegemony, trying to burn down the Izweski Manor in their capitol of Skalamar. The Hegemon’s daughter and nine guards die in the blaze. The Zrrn Summer Stones shuts down after a major fire, devastating the desert economy and dealing significant damage to Clan Zrrn's hold on the region.
2195 C.E. The Izweski Hegemony attempts an invasion on the southern border of the Coastal Union, demanding revenge for the deaths of the Hegemon's daughter in the manor fire. The Northern Republic lends supplies to the Hegemony to aid in their war efforts. Historians would later call this The Coastal War.
2197 C.E. The Northern Republic votes to get more directly involved in the conflict, sending in a few squads of soldiers for backup. The Coastal Union begins working on a massive structure on the water.
Project Anchor (2199-2214)
2199 C.E. Izweski spies report that the major aquatic structure - codenamed Project Anchor - appears to be of military nature, raising concerns from the general Sinta population. Two major Yeosa cities from their southern border are secured by the Hegemony, and Republican military support strengthens into full participation in the war.
2203 C.E. Project Anchor receives significant progress as a small portion of it becomes officially inhabitable. Anti-air defenses are installed on Project Anchor after an attempted bombing is narrowly thwarted by timely backup from the shore. The Izweski territory begins to extend toward the shore, with only one major city in the way.
2207 C.E. The Hegemony's forces reach the shore as the Northern Union's borders begin to expand into former Coastal Union territory. Project Anchor makes rapid progress as it starts to become self-sustaining, with the risks of attack from foreign powers heavily reduced by protection from the Union Navy as well as its own anti-air weaponry.
2211 C.E. Parts of the southern shore are lost to the Izweski Hegemony, who are forced to expand their claim toward the east and west due to the lack of a decent navy. Project Anchor sees significant expansion, being about half the size of a city. Clan Krodozar allies with nearby clans with a series of trade deals - those that are hesitant to business are quickly knocked into submission thanks to the skill of tactician Ektok Krodozar.
2214 C.E. The Republic reaches the northern shore as they devote more resources toward territories closer to home, slowing down the Hegemony's expansion as a result. Project Anchor expands outwards, gaining even more floor space than before. Citizens rename Project Anchor to Sanctuary, reflecting its true name and purpose. Clan Krodozar's crusade has, by this point, caused their territory to grow by 20% with those who resist their rule being forced into slavery.
2217 C.E. The Coastal war’s ongoing damages have left the Yeosa population wary of living on the land. Many Yeosa'Unathi begin to live on boats in an attempt to avoid the battlefield that is the shore, with all of their major cities taking significant hits to their populations as a result. Sanctuary finds itself overpopulated, with many smaller families sharing apartments just to avoid living on the streets.
2222 C.E. The Coastal Union has lost all but one city - Aogazlr - on the shoreline. An extension of Sanctuary begins construction to accommodate its growing population. The Northern Republic offers a treaty with the Coastal Union, to the criticism of the Izweski Hegemony.
2223 C.E. The Izweski Hegemony slows down its seige on Aogazlr after heavy criticism from the Northern Republic when a stray missile struck a hospital. Their speech notably avoids saying that the war is over, or even coming to a close, leading many to believe they seek the full annihilation of the Yeosa’Unathi. Clan Krodozar discovers a rich copper deposit in the southern parts of the Rorsk desert and begins a mining operation utilizing their bulk slave labor.
2227 C.E. Under political pressure from their allies, Hegemon Zorris Izweski signs a peace treaty with President Astoritas Olga Golgath of the Coastal Union. The Northern Republic and the Coastal Union praise this move, though it strikes controversy in the Izweski Hegemony over concerns of further attacks from the Yeosa’Unathi.
Krodozar Krukzuz rises to the global stage (2230-2255)
2230 C.E. Clan Krodozar expands its mining operations. Smaller clans start working under them for profit, and much of their copper is sold to Clan Zrrn. Parts of the Sanctuary expansion become inhabitable, but do little to alleviate the overpopulation. A separate ore deposit that's rich in lead is found in Krodozar teritory.
2235 C.E. Clan Krodozar officially opens trade with the Izweski Hegemony, supplying them with copper and lead. Despite the Hegemony's offers, Krodozar refuses to become a part of their nation. Aogazlr's population begins to rise as families leave Sanctuary, with complaints about overpopulation. Work begins to create lower floors of Sanctuary.
2237 C.E. Clan Zrrn shuts down the Sun-Peak Stones for maintenance temporarily, causing controversy among tourists. To bolster their economy, Chief Grst Zrrn begins work on a massive solar field, titled the Rorsk Sands Solar Farm.
2238 C.E. Sun-Peak stones are reopened to the public early in the year. Northern Republic President Ozzo Ikisiki is among several VIP guests at its grand opening. Due to overpopulation concerns, the Coastal Union places a legal maximum of one daughter or two sons per family.
2243 C.E. Work on the Rorsk Sands Solar Farm is completed. Its massive power output is more than Clan Zrrn ever needed - neighboring clans are provided electricity at a price, alleviating the desert clan's economic reliance on tourism. Aogazlr Pier opens up, and quickly becomes one of the leading amusement parks due to being the only major one along the shore.
2245 C.E. A second coastal amusement park attempts to open in Izweski territory, but is refused by the Hegemon with concerns of national security. The Coastal Union profits from Izweski anti-Yeosa sentiment for possibly the first time, as Aogazlr becomes one of the wealthiest cities. Sanctuary begins a major construction project, adding lower floors to the structure for more housing.
2249 C.E. A Republican journalist exposes the Izweski Hegemony's military for suddenly building up their armory in recent years despite being at peace. The Izweski Navy is officially announced, bolstering a fleet of ships larger than that of the Coastal Union. Tensions with the Northern Republic rise due to this occuring during a time of peace.
2253 C.E. Pollution in the River Rorsk becomes a major concern among desert clans, who begin work on water filtration. A diplomat reaches out to the Coastal Union in hopes of developing a solution, but is intercepted by the Izweski Hegemony.
2255 C.E. The Krodozar diplomat is released by the Izweski Hegemony, and returns with plans for a water filtration system despite having never reached the Coastal Union. Tensions between the Coastal Union and the Hegemony rise. The Northern Republic offers to help escort future diplomats to ensure they reach their proper destination.
The Union and Krodozar Wars (2258-2390)
2258 C.E. Clan Chief Gaona Arazaki Aogalar visits the Skarathk Door during a diplomatic trip to the Northern Republic, commenting on the beauty of the land and the friendliness of the people, helping improve the relations between the Northern Republic and the Coastal Union. The Izweski faith of Zh'akh begins to rise in popularity among the desert clans.
2261 C.E. Northern Republic president Okzo Izzksn visits Aogazlr with his clan, enjoying a weeklong vacation among diplomatic talks. The Izweski Hegemony criticizes this move as sucking up to an enemy.
2263 C.E. Tensions rise further between the Northern Republic and the Izweski Hegemony after the arranged fiancee of Siski Izzksn is connected to a powerful business within the Hegemony with a large number of shares owned by the Izweski clan. The wedding is canceled.
2267 C.E. New laws are passed to make immigrating to the Northern Republic from the plains of the Hegemony more difficult, as well as increasing taxes on imports from the Hegemony.
2271 C.E. Northern Republic president Kao Rkash is assassinated shortly after being elected. The Izweski Hegemony is blamed by the public, despite fervent denial, due to the heritage of the assassin.
2272 C.E. The Northern Republic declares war on the Izweski Hegemony, with support from the Coastal Union. Clan Zrrn and Clan Krodozar side with the Republic and the Hegemony, respectively. The Northern Republic attacks the Hegemony's northern border.
2275 C.E. The Izweski Hegemony bombs Aogazlr, resulting in retaliation from the Coastal Union's navy as well as emphasis on constructing lower floors of Sanctuary.
2278 C.E. Clan Krodozar shifts most of its slave resources from mining to military, attempting an invasion on Clan Zrrn. The Northern Republic sends support to Zrrn as the Izweski Hegemony focuses on a stalemate against the Coastal Union. The Northern Republic use the alliances of the desert clans to justify attacking the Izweski Hegemony directly.
2281 C.E. Krodozar deals major damage to Zrrn, taking over the Summer Stones. An Izweski journalist releases an article about the desert war, attracting mass criticism from the public on the usage of slaves to attack civilian spaces. Hegemon Trrks Izweski refuses to get involved, focusing on attempts to attack the Coastal Union’s Sanctuary tower and defend their borders from the Northern Republic.
2285 C.E. Trrks Izweski meets with Coastal Union President Lilia Kulana Gologan to broker peace as the Hegemony decides to shift military presence away from the waters. The Hegemony Navy and the Coastal Union largely disarm themselves, though the Hegemony finds themselves more heavily impacted, losing most of their forces that could be used against the Coastal Union.
2287 C.E. The Izweski Hegemony sends forces to Zrrn to help Clan Krodozar claim the remainder of their territory in a crushing blow, causing the Northern Republic to swiftly withdraw their forces. President Akani Kroskth draws heavy criticism for this, and his poll numbers take a sharp decline as the populace begins to fear appearing weak.
2390 C.E. The Izweski Space Program is founded with the aid of Clan Krodozar, hoping to establish a colony on the Moghesan moon Ouerea. Clan Zrrn falls to Krodozar’s forces as their capital is taken by Zron Lakszizo, and President Korskth loses the election by a landslide as a result.
Reaching for the Stars, First Contact (2391-2472)
2391 C.E. Clan Krodozar hosts a party at their manor to grant many of their commanders medals and a feast for their families. The recipients of these rewards band together, under the command of Zron Lakszizo, and raid the manor that night - after the slaughter, Clan Krodozar is extinct. The Izweski Hegemony expands their territory into the desert, winning over Krodozar-loyal clans while drawing the ire of former slaves. The Northern Republic and the Coastal Union start their own space programs inspired by the Izweski, believing that space is the final frontier.
2412 C.E. The Republic Space Program puts their first satellites into space: One, the Zolas, is to monitor weather conditions across Moghes while the other, Uueoa-sar, is a powerful telescope meant to help observe celestial bodies. An agreement is made between the Izweski Hegemony and the Northern Republic to allow scientists from both nations to use this telescope as a mixture of diplomacy and the Hegemony attempting to disable what they suspect to be a means of spying on their people.
2430 C.E. Sanctuary is completed. Coastal Union President Siolas Anagala Loagalon declares the completion date to be a national holiday, simply dubbed ‘’Sanctuary Completion Day.’’ The Izweski Space Program lands on Ouerea, and confirms that the moon has perfect conditions for living. A colony is started on the moon, titled Izouera. The Northern Republic and the Coastal Union merge their space programs, utilizing underwater technology created by the Yeosa'Unathi in order to help train for zero-gravity, with one of the nations having the technology to put people safely into space and the other having a more accurate simulation available to them for training purposes.
2435 C.E. An ancient door is discovered in a hill 80 miles away from Izouera, identical to the Skarathk Door. Clan Skarathk attempts to stake a claim on the territory, but is swiftly stopped by Hegemony soldiers. Archaeologists date the Izouera Door to be the same age as the on e Skarathk had discovered, and begin research into a means of opening the door.
2450 C.E. The doors open, only to raise more questions. The Skarathk Door is initially believed to be a tomb, filled with skeletons of an Unathi-like species with significant anatomical differences such as digitigrade legs; fewer, yet larger, digits on their hands. Their language, while holding some resemblance to both the Sinta and Yeosa tongues, is still clearly a different language - only vague understandings can truly be achieved. Artifacts from within the tomb incorporate technology different from anything either species has incorporated - instead of mechanical augments, they appear to be heavily genetically modified. The tools, however, are heavily damaged, no longer capable of the necessary precision to replicate their old work and missing components that simply cannot be reproduced with existing technology. This third species is dubbed the Rksh'Unathi, or the Forgotten People.
2456 C.E. Coastal Union scientists believe they have repaired the Rksh DNA modifier after years of failed experiments, successfully changing the color of a small lizard's eyes. Geneticist Olga Gasara Colstat attempts experimenting on an Unathi named Arras Koznan, but the results are horrific - Koznan dies to several complications within hours and the tragedy's portrayal in the headlines causes major public backlash to the device. Research is publicly discontinued.
2463 C.E. A strange radio signal is picked up from among the stars by the Izweski Space Program in which a strange, robotic voice appears to be singing. Unfortunately, nobody is able to translatethis undiscovered language - though consensus is unanimous that this is not just a deliberate piece of music, but includes words in the language of a presently undiscovered species. The language heard is named after the noises the witnesses believed they'd heard, being donned Dah'lers.
2469 C.E. A strange object of artificial construction is seen passing through the edges of the Uuoea-esa system. A signal is broadcasted towards it, in hopes of making contact.
2470 C.E. At the beginning of the year, foreign ship of unknown make approaches Moghes, speaking Dah'lers. Izweski authorities provide several discs with samples of Moghesan art, literature, and culture on them - the aliens, a species called humans, return a little over half of a year later. While they cannot speak Sinta'Azaziba, they possess devices that provide a rough translation. The Hegemon presents his clan as the main power over Moghes, and they begin to establish trade with the human corporation Nanotrasen.
2472 C.E. As Nanotrasen's translations improve, another human corporation - Hephaestus Industries - makes contact with the Izweski Hegemony. Their translators are outdated by about a year compared to Nanotrasen's, and their approach is more cautious. With the first corporation struggling to mesh with the local culture, neither Hephaestus nor the Unathi seem too eager to make contact.
The Contact War (2474-2520)
2474 C.E. Hephaestus finally makes their presence known as mineral processors and manufacturers of weaponry and industrial machinery. While Nanotrasen reports show skepticism of their approach, Hephaestus ultimately is received far better by the Sinta people for a more blunt, direct marketing campaign with little effort to pretty up what they do. The Izweski Hegemony and Hephaestus Industries find themselves to be fast friends, with higher-ranking Hephaestus employees visiting even the Hegemon himself. The Northern Republic expresses concerns over the aliens' emphasis on the Hegemony, especially concerning their violent history.
2480 C.E. Nanotrasen reaches out to the Northern Republic, offering new energy weapons for their military to the hesitant acceptance of the Republic president. The Hegemony and the Republic's relationship strains as they begin to arm up, the latter skeptical of the benevolence of both the Izweski and their foreign allies.
2483 C.E. Human weaponry becomes more commonplace in the desert as smugglers spread the product out to the chaotic sands, desert clans clamoring for high-quality weapons that their enemies lack proper protection against. The Izweski Hegemony invests heavier into its military in response to the increased militarization of its neighbors, only the Coastal Union withdrawing and actively attempting to avoid conflict. Conflicts begin to arise around the borders as the desert clans and the Northern Republic strike the occasional border posts of the Hegemony.
2485 C.E. Nanotrasen and Hephaestus Industries agree on one thing - war is on the horizon, and the residents of this planet would prove more beneficial to their bottom-lines alive than dead. In hopes of deterring war, Nanotrasen provides the Northern Republic, the Izweski Hegemony, and a handful of desert clans - Rossos, Kirrik, and Zrorkos - nuclear weaponry.
2487 C.E. Clan Rossos, emboldened by their new weaponry, convince Zrorkos to help them invade the Izweski Hegemony. They bomb a city sixty miles past the border, killing 2,750 civilians in the destruction of a tower and injuring almost 7,000. The Izweski Hegemony declares war against these clans, responding with an invasion within a month. After a strike on a Rossos militia base that killed 175 and the Hegemon swearing to bring clan leader Orro Rossos to justice, Clan Rossos threatens to use their missiles. The Hegemony calls their bluff with a strike on their militia's headquarters, killing 745 soldiers and 55 civilians, as well as leaving many wounded.
2489 C.E. Clan Rossos launches missiles at the Hegemony, and the world is stunned to see the raw destruction caused. The Coastal Union and the Northern Republic call for the missiles to be disassembled to no avail. Nanotrasen and Hephaestus Industries begin to pull out as the sky is lit by weapons of what historians would come to call the Contact War. Nanotrasen fully withdrew from the system by the end of the year, while Hephaestus maintained presence on Ouerea.
2490 C.E. A weather balloon passing over the Northern Republic is mistaken for an Izweski missile, resulting in a retaliatory strike from the Republic against the Hegemony. The Coastal Union criticizes the Republic's joining the fight and applies tariffs to several Republic imports in an attempt to peacefully discourage the course of action, but it's ultimately fruitless. Aogazlr is evacuated as the devastation begins to spread north, causing a spike in Sanctuary's population.
2493 C.E. Clan Kirrik turns against a Republic diplomat with their clan leader Rsaak Kirrik executing them while declaring to the rest of the world that the desert will not bend the knee to major slave masters any longer. Soldiers from clans Zrorkos and Lakszizo aid Kirrik in preventing the escape of the Republic entourage, leaving no survivors. The Northern Republic recognizes the desert clans as a hostile party, further complicating the war and causing the violence to heat up further.
2496 C.E. The empty city of Aogazlr is struck by a misguided missile, but there are minimal casualties due to the city's evacuation. The Coastal Union condemns the violence, but refuses to retaliate in fear of risking their own populace - their military remains on standby in submarines to prevent an invasion of Sanctuary, and nothing more. An old journal is found inside the bunker hidden in the Izouera door.
2502 C.E. The Izweski Hegemony reaches out to the Coastal Union in hopes of building an alliance, but is rejected - as is the Northern Republic, with the Union insisting on neutrality and emphasizing their only interest being to minimize damage to their own people.
2516 C.E. The desert clans go into disarray as they turn against each other, fighting over whether or not they should have taken Republic aid as the popular opinion shifts and some of the former attackers begin to doubt their own actions.
2519 C.E. The war winds down, moreso due to a dwindling population than reduced tensions. With the Sinta'Unathi population somewhere between 25% and 30% of where it had been when the war started, they are forced to seek other options. Lagoso Ol Gazlor, the president of the Coastal Union, reaches out to the Hegemony and the Republic in hopes of negotiating peace.
2520 C.E. The desert clans final warheads are destroyed in their conflict against the Hegemony, the Republic, as well as themselves as the parties desiring a Republic alliance win over those wishing to strike at the larger organized nations.
Scars of the Past (2521-Present)
2521 C.E. The Hegemony and the Republic form a treaty to dismantle their nuclear weapons and not raise arms against each other. The Izouera journal's translation is completed, and the artifact is put on display in an Ouerean museum - it was written by an Rksh youth while they were still learning to write, providing details on life building up to a major war and life within the bunker up until a certain point. Archeologists suspect that their ancestor species had largely eradicated itself through war.
